Guided Fly Fishing Trips in the Wyoming Backcountry

We have access to a plethora of backcountry, high-mountain creeks and lakes all over the Great State of Wyoming. These waters sit at elevations above 8,000 feet, which means they fish well into late summer when the lower rivers warm up and the crowds move on to something else.

Wyoming’s backcountry is the kind of country most anglers see in photographs and assume is off-limits. Alpine meadows above timberline. Wild, willing cutthroat and brook trout in creeks you can step across. Lakes holding fish that have never seen a fly from a human hand. It is not an easy day some of these trips involve real hiking, four-wheel-drive roads, or helicopter access but the anglers who book them come back with stories they tell for the rest of their lives.

We run backcountry trips July through October, when snowmelt is down and the access is open. Depending on the trip you choose, we’ll meet you in Jackson or Pinedale and head into the Wind River Range, the Wyoming Range, or the Gros Ventre drainage.

Two Ways to Fish the Backcountry

Backcountry Walk and Wade — from $795

A full-day guided trip on a high-mountain creek or lake, accessed by vehicle and on foot. Expect a 30 to 90 minute drive from Jackson or Pinedale, followed by hiking into your guide's chosen water for the day. These trips are a great option for anglers who want a true backcountry day without committing to the helicopter. Wild cutthroat and brook trout in creek-and-pool water surrounded by nothing but mountains.

Backcountry Heli Trips — from $8,500

Our most exclusive trip. A helicopter picks you up in Jackson and drops you on water you cannot reach any other way, alpine lakes in the Wind River Range, headwater creeks in the Wyoming Range, or private water arranged for your group. Eight hours of fishing with your guide, then the helicopter back. It is the trip for anglers who want the best, rarest, least-fished water in Wyoming, and who understand that private-water exclusivity at this level is worth what it costs.

Where You’ll Fish

We have access to waters throughout Wyoming's mountain country, including the Wind River Range, the Wyoming Range, and the Gros Ventre drainage. Specific creeks and lakes are picked based on your trip, current conditions, and your guide's read of where the fishing is best that week. Some waters are public, some are permitted, and some (for Heli Trips specifically) are private water arranged for your group. We can talk through specific water options on the phone when you book.
