Summer conditions are good and getting even better with the rain that we’re currently receiving. The flows are increasing and clarity good but a tad off. Anglers should expect a mix of bugs as summer continues. Streamer action has been VERY SOLID as has the PMD action as well. The rain has truly been an absolute gift and we’re so excited that the fish are getting the benefit of the coolers water temps, increased dissolved oxygen and deeper water.

Hatches/flies
PMDs, Caddis, and Terrestrials are around on the warm sunshiny afternoons — this time of year that means hoppers, ants, and beetles becoming more important as the season progresses. Don’t rule out streamers for the bigger browns.

General fishery notes

• The Salt is a small, intimate river with brushy banks flowing out of the Salt River Range through Star Valley into Palisades Reservoir, with a good population of cutthroat and brown trout averaging 12–14 inches. Fishing for Snake River cutthroat, brown, rainbow trout, and mountain whitefish is rated excellent by Wyoming Game and Fish across several access points.
• Getting on the water early is recommended for the best dry fly action, especially on the warmer days!!!!
