The New Fork River is the kind of water experienced fly anglers talk about in quiet tones. Classic Western freestone structure. Trophy brown trout holding tight to undercut banks. Some of the strongest dry fly hatches in the state, including Golden Stones, Grey Drakes, Yellow Sallies, PMDs, and tricos through mid-summer. And just enough pressure to keep the fish smart.
It is not a beginner’s river. The New Fork rewards careful casting, a good drift, and an honest read of the water. What you get in return is a shot at some of the biggest browns in Wyoming in a river most visitors have never heard of.
We guide the New Fork as a full-day float trip out of Pinedale, July through October. It pairs naturally with our Upper Green and Fontenelle tailwater trips for anglers planning a multi-day Western Wyoming fishing trip.

The New Fork River runs roughly 70 miles from New Fork Lake at the base of the Wind River Range, southwest through the town of Pinedale, before joining the Green River near Big Piney. We float the public access water in the middle and lower sections on full-day trips, with put-ins and take-outs at BLM and Wyoming Game and Fish access sites. Drive time from Pinedale is short, most put-ins are within 15 minutes of town.
Key New Fork River Hatches: Golden Stones come off in late June and early July. Grey Drakes and Yellow Sallies in July. PMDs run strong from late June through August. Tricos dominate August mornings. Caddis activity continues through summer. Terrestrial fishing (hoppers, ants, beetles) peaks July through September. Streamer fishing is strongest in September and October.
